Avidemux is a free video editor designed for simple editing, filtering, and encoding tasks. It supports many file types, including AVI, DVD-compatible MPEG files, MP4, and ASF, with a variety of codecs. Tasks can be automated using projects, job queues, and powerful scripting capabilities. Avidemux is available for Linux, BSD, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows under the GNU GPL license.

Audio department improvements

  • Rolling the mouse wheel over the search buttons by 60 seconds cycles through the 1/2/4/60 second search modes
  • Support for in-hardware 8-bit VP9 decoding via DXVA2 on Windows and via VDPAU on Linux with graphics cards with VP9 decoder
  • Buttons to search for selection start (A) and end (B) in on-the-fly video filter preview
  • The logo image in the “Add Logo” video filter configuration dialog is now scalable and can be repositioned by dragging
  • By default, on-the-fly preview in video filter configuration dialogs is now rendered using OpenGL to improve performance under HiDPI conditions


  • Crash copying to clipboard when selection reaches end of video, a regression introduced in v2.8.0
  • Crashes in the “Resample FPS” video filter with motion interpolation enabled
  • Crash when stopping encoding with vp9 encoder
  • Avidemux falls victim to a crash in the VA API driver triggered by probing application launch on Linux with newer hardware
  • Crash when loading MPEG-TS or MPEG-PS file with MPEG-1 video track and HW decoder enabled via VDPAU
  • Wrong number of channels or wrong channel layout on some E-AC3 streams
  • Reduced contrast and desaturated colors in loaded BMP images
  • The selection that starts at zero and ends at the last frame of the video cannot be deleted
  • Disabling B-frames breaks the VideoToolbox HW encoder (macOS only)


  • FFmpeg bundled libraries have been updated to version 4.4.2.
