Firefox 95.0.1 fixes Microsoft.com connectivity issues and other bugs

Mozilla plans to release a minor upgrade to the stable version of its web browser today. Firefox 95.0.1 is a bug fix version that fixes several problems in the browser, including a connection problem to multiple Microsoft domains.

The connectivity issue was posted on Bugzilla, Mozilla’s bug tracking site, five days ago. The reporter received a MOZILLA_PKIX_ERROR_OCSP_RESPONSE_FOR_CERT_MISSING error message when attempting to open a page in the Docs subdomain of Microsoft’s main website.

The page listing supported Windows 11 AMD processors returned an error message rather than the actual content. Firefox displays a “Secure Connection Failed” error page with the above error message.

Several users have reported problems in other subdomains including https://msdn.microsoft.com/, https://go.microsoft.com/, and https://support.microsoft.com/.

The problem seems to come and go sporadically, but the planned update of Firefox will solve it for all stable users of the web browser.

Firefox 95.0.1 fixes three additional bugs. The first only affects the Linux version of Firefox. It fixes a crash in WebRender on “some Linux / X11” systems according to Mozilla. The Bugzilla report suggests that the crashes “have increased somewhat over the past month” and that the crash crashes the entire browser, not just a single process.

The next issue is resolving a crash on Windows devices, specifically crashes on shutdown. The number of crashes was exceptionally high, according to Mozilla, accounting for about a quarter of the 50 most common crash signatures reported to Mozilla during that time.

The volume jumped from 500-1000 / day to several thousand per day around October 26th or so. We heard that there was a Windows update going on at the time. However, there are crashes on win7 / 8/10 and 11. Only the most common signature for this problem had 16,000 crashes in the last 7 days, and about 1/4 of the 50 most common crash signatures are from this problem, including # 2.

Again, the final edition is limited to Firefox running on Linux devices. It fixes a website contrast problem that some users encountered when Dark Mode was enabled at the operating system level.

Firefox 95.0.1 will be released later today for all desktop operating systems that Mozilla supports. Users can open Menu> Help> About Firefox to manually check for updates as soon as the update is officially released in order to update Firefox as soon as possible.
