Narazumono, 3 hours agoI haven’t heard of any spying through the front camera, but I wouldn’t be surprised … moreBefore the pop-up started showing up when launching / visiting some apps or websites, it was just a myth / conspiracy theory being spied on from your selfie camera.
Meanwhile, experts have been around for a while and are still seriously recommending covering your laptop’s camera.
The funny thing is that Android is and was a lot less secure than Windows / Linux / iOS.

The most dangerous myth about UDC is that “they can’t see you when the display is lit,” which is completely wrong. In fact, this is exactly what optical FPS do with underdisplay.
Add to this the false sense of privacy when you forget the camera is there and many will experience nasty surprises.

Narazumono, 3 hours agoI love the pop up it’s a great temporary fix for up under the display … moreIt’s not a fix, and the underdisplay camera is not a replacement for it.
Pop-ups are much better than under-display cameras in many ways.
Not only does UDC fail to guarantee privacy, it is indeed an active threat to privacy.

The ONLY good thing about UDC is that you can buy a phone with one, disassemble it, remove the camera, and enjoy a spy-free smartphone with a full display and no nicks or holes.

It’s a great temporary fix until under-display cameras become more common, but it’s a real shame that few phones have it. I can’t believe every company settled for stupid punchholes instead, and some phones went even further with the gigantic double punchhole like the S10 +, which was just as bad and ridiculous as the weird Pixel 3 XL notch

This phone was a shame

Anonymous, 7 hours agoSamsung did this years ago Not “that” exactly, I’m not talking about placing a compact camera module on the back of a phone, I’m talking about what Oppo is doing here, something on a smaller scale. Looks no more difficult than placing a periscope horizontally in the casing of the phone, with inferior optics.

Here we have a Chinese company that drives innovation.

The first implementation of this size, I would bet

Conveniently, I don’t see the people who always beat up Oppo for copying somewhere in sight

They seem to be absent from posts doing something different or unusual in the industry .. strange

Imagine 1 / 1.3 “, that’s almost 3x bigger.

Most of the time, when they say it’s ugly, they mean it’s not trendy enough. Do you remember when multi-camera setups were considered “ugly”? Times change and so do our tastes

We don’t need Oppo to discover the hot water!
Samsung already did this job in 2013/2014 with the
great Galaxy S4-Zoom and Galaxy S5-Zoom (K-Zoom)
with large retractable / posable reversing cameras!
NOBODY can make phones like this today!

An ugly phone
