Update Google Chrome: How to Download Chrome Security Update on Mac, Linux, Windows and Android

Google recently released an updated Google Chrome due to a recent high severity exploit. The tech giant encourages its billions of users around the world to download the Google Chrome security update as soon as possible.

Google has expanded the alerts and raised awareness of its massive user base to let them know that they can expect an increasing number of zero-day attacks in the near future.

Here is the latest Google Chrome security update for the CVE-2022-1096 zero-day exploit for Mac, Linux and Windows users.

How to update Google Chrome on your computer

To update Google Chrome, follow the steps below as recommended by Google:

  • Open Google Chrome on your computer.
  • Select “More” found at the top right of the screen.
  • Select “Help” from the drop-down menu and then “About Google Chrome”.
  • To update Chrome, select “Update Google Chrome” on the screen

An important note from Google is that if this button is not found in a user’s browser, it indicates that the user is already using the latest version of Chrome.

  • Lastly, select the “Restart” button at the bottom right of the screen.

Normally, when users close and reopen their computer’s browser, updates are also performed in the background. If Google Chrome users haven’t closed their browser for a while in the meantime, they might see a pending update notification like this:

  • Green indicates that a new version was released less than 2 days ago.
  • Orange: A new version of the software was released about 4 days ago.
  • Red indicates that an update was made available at least a week ago.

Updating Google Chrome on a computer saves users’ open tabs and windows and reopens them automatically. However, the same does not happen when you use an incognito window.

Google Incognito tabs won’t reopen. If a user doesn’t want to restart immediately, select Not Now. The update will be applied the next time a user restarts their browser after that.

  • Linux users can use their package manager to install the latest version of the Google Chrome update.
